The challenge:

Bethlehem Plaas is a privately owned, non-commercial farm located in the Banhoek Valley, close to Stellenbosch in South Africa. The farm welcomes walkers, runners, and cyclists to explore its beautiful surroundings and numerous hiking trails. The area is also home to various animals, including Eiland, which roam freely.

They asked me to develop a brand identity for them. Part of the challenge was to interpret and develop a logo from an illustration of the farmhouse that they loved, which was drawn by a well-known illustrator, Anton Kannemeyer.

The solution:

The owners wanted to keep the essence of this illustration alive in the logo update. Great care was taken to be as sensitive as possible to keep the same personality and intent of the original illustration.

Along with the logo update, I developed a custom logotype also based on typography from the original illustration.

Adjustments and improvements were suggested to provide the best usage and longevity of the logo.

I developed a logo suite for them for various applications and sizes.

This logo update/refresh references the stylized illustration drawn by well-known South African illustrator Anton Kannemeyer.

The illustration depicts the front of the manor house on the farm with the 2 iconic oak trees on either side. Anton is a close friend of the farm owner.
