The challenge:
Pristop Agency hired me to refresh some key branding assets for the historic and well-known Pivovarna Union brewery in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The brewery was established in 1864 as a small family business by Ivan and Peter Kosler, known as Kosler Brewery.
The challenge was to recreate the dragon illustration, which is the main mascot/element of the label and brand, as well as create an etching of the brewery building.
Although the brand has undergone many transformations over the years, the dragon emblem has not received significant attention until now.
The solution:
The current dragon illustration was more of an icon design and lacked depth and detail.
I started by taking the previous dragon graphic and enhancing it by adding more details based on the actual statue. The challenge was to ensure it remained true to the original graphic while also resembling the actual physical statue as closely as possible.
I developed the brewery building in a similar style to that of the dragon.
The dragon is now used on all of the packaging.

The dragon statue and the town of Ljubljana, Slovenia
The first mention of beer brewing in Ljubljana dates back to 1592. A brewery was established in 1864 as a small family business by Ivan and Peter Kosler, known as Kosler Brewery.
Although the brand has undergone many transformations over the years, the dragon emblem has not received significant attention until now.
I started by taking the previous dragon graphic and enhancing it by adding more details based on the actual statue. The challenge was to ensure it remained true to the original graphic while also resembling the actual physical statue as closely as possible.
I was soon commissioned to create an etching-style illustration of the old brewery building.
